What can I do to avoid fraud?
Simple steps to help protect your accounts, your personal information, and your money from common scams and fraud.
-
Never share your PIN, password, or one-time passcode with anyone—this includes Lutheran Federal Credit Union staff and other financial representatives.
-
Avoid signing in to your accounts over public Wi-Fi networks whenever possible.
-
Create strong, unique passwords for online banking, and update them on a regular basis.
-
Do not click on links in unexpected text messages or emails, even if they appear to come from a trusted organization.
-
Be aware that scammers may pose as credit union employees; do not share personal or account information with anyone who contacts you unexpectedly.
-
Do not send a wire transfer to someone you do not know, even if they provide a check to “cover” the funds. The check may be returned unpaid, and because wire transfers are final, you will be responsible for the full wired amount.
-
Examine ATMs carefully for loose card readers, sticky residue, or any unusual attachments when inserting your card, as these may indicate a skimming device.
